We have to part of this story, post time skip is focus on the mission however pre time skip is a subconscious reflection of how mc sees himself. For example,
the erdan would train hard on his own was a reference to mcs own efforts to becoming a adventurer. Yes they work absolutely hard but they failed because how they were training was flawed.

Yeah pretty much mc wanted to be adventurer so badly he just overlooked his talent as a analyst had he just became one he could of formed connections and used those connections to possibly improve in the field he wanted to improve in
