Light novel does so much more justice to the Heavenly Demon vs Specter fight. The specter never uses his frost skill; he only uses the watchguards of darkness, so that he can continue to hide his identity, and also so that he can use it as a surprise attack to do real damage. The enemy is just way stronger than Specter. Throughout the fight, the heavenly demon goes easy on Mc, purely out of respect for Specter and because the whole time his goal wasn’t to kill the hero, but rather to let the world watch the hero fall. His end goal was to turn Specter into a fiend. In the novel, the MC literally refuses to fall; he stands no matter what, even if he uses his sword to support himself stand.
This fight’s goal was to reveal Specter’s true character, as well as to demonstrate the heavy burden he carries as the ‘hero’. MC knows that the heavenly demon is being careless by going easy, and he manages to use frost to take one of his arms off through a surprise attack.
